Busy as Bees
One of our favorite things to do here at Sherri's Portraits is to help arrange surprise portrait sessions. We were delighted to set up such a special session for the Hood family. They were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary and thought that they were headed to the Old Mill Restaurant (http://www.acwortholdmill.com/) across the street. The family surprised them by coming into the studio an hour earlier for a session of family portraits! From the 50th wedding anniversary portraits to some fun shots of the newly engaged family members, we captured a lot of great memories for them!
It is the season for family portraits (namely for Christmas cards!) The Combs family had a special family portrait made when the family members flew in from out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday! The Hulseys came in for a family portrait and ended up with some great portraits of mother and son playing around! And the littlest one of the Binkley family had his own special portrait made to match the beautiful oil portrait we did of his sister last year. If he looks familiar, that's probably because you've seen his cute face recently in ads for Macy's!
We are big believers in supporting local businesses. That is why we are proud to announce that we have teamed up with Singleton Orthodontics (http://www.singletonortho.com/).
Dr. Singleton and his staff came into the studio for some group portraits and headshots and we had so much fun with them! We can see why kids don't mind going to Singleton Orthodontics (otherwise known as The Ortho Zone)! As Dr. Singleton's clients get their braces removed, we'll be taking portraits of their bright, straight, new smiles!
Thanks to The Hoods, The Hulseys, The Binkleys, The Combs, and Singleton Orthodontics

Family Fun Day at Mountasia
Many of you receive our newsletter and may have read about the golf tournament we recently took part in. The tournament was held as a benefit for a close friend of my family, Nicole Brown, who is battling an aggressive form of cancer. We had a great turn out and want to thank all of our clients that helped make the tournament a success.
We are once again sponsoring another benefit for Nicole and this one is fun for the whole family! Mountasia Family Fun Center on Barrett Parkway has graciously opened their facility to us for an entire day! The cost is $20 per person for unlimited mini-golf, go-carts, bumper boats, and arcade games. It's a great deal, a lot of fun, and best of all Mountasia is donating all proceeds to Nicole and her family. The event will be held Saturday, November 17th from 11am to 11pm.
To learn more about the event and Nicole and her family, please visit Nicole's caring bridge website at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nicolebrown

PSA
Since so many of our favorite people are children, we wanted to bring you this quick PSA about some recently recalled toys. These toys, called Aqua Dots are very popular among the little ones! Please read the following recall information and check to see if you own this particular toy. This recall is one of the more serious ones, as the toys are coated in a substance that, if ingested, turns into the deadly drug GHB. Several children have been hospitalized after falling into seizures or comas. So if your family owns Aqua Dots or was thinking of giving them as gifts this season, please return them or throw them out! Here is the link to CNN's information about the recall: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/11/08/toy.recall/index.html

Meeting Father Christmas
Rather than posting stories of all the magical times we spent with Father Christmas, we are just going to let the portraits speak for themselves.
Thank you to The Berryhills, The Mennas, The Klucks, The Tolberts, The Harrahs, The Wrights, The Stannas, and The Rices for allowing us to capture such beautiful images and share in their Christmas Season joy.

Red Top Mountain Special
No spring, nor summer beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one autumnal face
As I have seen in one autumnal face
~John Donne
This past weekend we made our yearly trip up to Red Top Mountain for our special family portrait sessions against the beautiful backdrop of autumn leaves. It was chilly in the morning so we loaded up our big, fluffy blankets and some pumpkin-chocolate chip cookies (to fight off the cold one should always have pumpkin-chocolate chip cookies on hand) and set out to find the best spot on the mountain. Our first family, The Penters arrived at 9:30 in the morning. What troopers! The lighting was beautiful and we even managed to squeeze in a few portraits of the oldest son in his high school letter jacket! A few families brought along their four legged family members. Annie and Barney were more interested in finding the squirrels but managed to sit still for a few family portraits. Good dogs! Best of all was the time we were able to spend with each family. The Meredith boys showed us how fast they can run (very, very fast!) and the McLerran girls showed off their dance moves (they can twirl on one foot!) We also had the privilege of taking the first family portrait for a family who had just completed their adoption process. Congratulations to The Paynes!
We had been a bit worried that the Georgia draught might mean there would be no spectacular changing of the leaves this year, as there are already a lot of leaves on the ground! But as you can see, these portraits turned out beautifully!

Christmas Sneak Peeks
Remember how I told you we get ready for Christmas early around here? Here are a few sneak peeks from our Traditional Christmas set. When we decided to do a gold and white set this year, I brought over my vintage gold chairs that used to belong to my grandmother to use as props. When I was growing up, those chairs sat in the fancy parlor that was deemed "adults only." As children my cousins and I would sneak into the parlor and hold pretend tea parties until we were shooed out by our parents, who insisted we must never play on Gran's parlor furniture. My grandmother would probably be horrified to know that I let children climb all over them now!
Don't forget that Santa is coming to the studio NEXT WEEKEND! Yes, next weekend is the first weekend in November. We will have Santa here all day on the 2ND and 3rd in full Father Christmas attire. We only have a few spots left (seriously, maybe 3 spots left for both days) so if you were waiting until the last minute to book, call us today! You can see examples of our Father Christmas setup by going to our website http://sherrisportraits.com and clicking the "Quarterly Newsletter: Studio View: link.
Thank you to The Chungs and The Reams!

A pick me up
I know that I've already posted this week. Recently, in fact. But as I was going through some recent sessions, I just couldn't wait to share these two. I just adore babies in bonnets and so I had to show you the Carswell baby. And can you pick out my favorite portrait from this session with the Jiles family? If not, I'll give you a hint. It's one where we didn't notice something until we were looking at the proofs on the computer, and it cracked us up!
Did you see the little girl flashing the peace sign in the family portrait? If not look again! I think it is so cute, how years from now they will look back and laugh at this. It's one of those things that becomes the family joke, "Did you flash the peace sign in any of THESE portraits?" I love simple, little, funny things like this.

Wonder
If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the
christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the
world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout
life.

It's Official
I told you October would sneak up on us! I just realized that I hadn't updated the blog in September, mostly because I went out of town and then I was waiting for the newsletter to go out and make the blog "official." There are a lot of things going on around here that are "official" lately. I just officially became an aunt. My best friend's children call my husband and I "Aunt Kayla and Uncle Jeff" but the new baby, Hayley Kaitlyn, is actually related to us. This morning I stopped for my first hot chocolate at Dunkin Donuts and that is what makes fall official for me, even if they did forget my whipped cream. And this week is our first official "blog special" for our fabulous Sherri's Portraits families.
From now until next Thursday (October 25) all of our 5x5 frames are buy 3 get 1 free. People are always calling me at the studio asking when we're going to do another frame sale. Because those 5x5 frames are hard to come by, and y'all order a lot of 5x5 prints! Also, I'm allowed to say y'all because I am southern. The truth is, we hardly ever have frame sales because our frames are priced so competitively already.
So give us a call at the studio (770-529-1410) and let me know which frames you want, or if you want to come in and pick them out. We just returned from the GPPA show and we have some beautiful, never-before-seen frames to choose from. I already bought some for my Christmas gifts (Gramma, pretend you didn't see that) this year.
So here are some wonderful sessions from the past couple of weeks - and that is only half of them! I have a lot more to come soon. Thanks to the Hughes, Bodekers, Clines, Dunlaps, Hatfields, and Yarboroughs for making such special memories at Sherris Portraits.

What a summer!
There is a song by Nichole Nordeman that I love called "Every Season." She sings about the changing of the seasons, noting the differences that each season brings. Summer is coming to a close (although it doesn't feel like it in this heat), so we've been preparing for our transition into fall here at the studio. Pretty soon the leaves will start to turn, then they will fall and we won't have any of these beautiful outdoor portraits to share until next year! Our outdoor sessions officially end in October. We go out with a bang for our big Red Top Mountain special, where we use the natural beauty of the fall foliage as our backdrop.
Then it's time for us to bundle up, pour the hot chocolate and start getting ready to take your family's treasured Christmas portraits! I know, I know, it's not quite even September yet! And while I'm sure you're trying hard to NOT think about Christmas, we sure have to! We were just planning our trip to buy all new decorations for our new set-oops, I already said too much! Our fall newsletter will be going out soon and those Christmas sessions are going to fill up fast, especially when you see this year's special new addition.
So here are some of our favorite sessions from the summer, when "every drop of sun is full of fun and wonder." Sessions that capture the beauty of new babies, sisterly love, and the transitions of childhood.

Baby Lily
We have been so busy photographing our high school seniors along with our regular sessions that we havent had any time to update our family blog! So we'll get back into the swing of things by starting off with one of our favorite recent sessions.
Bobby and Brandi brought 10 week old Lily into the studio this week and we couldn't get over how much hair she already had! What a doll!
Here is a sneak peek of just a few of the portraits Sherri captured of this beautiful family.

The last couple of weeks at Sherri's Portraits have been filled with High School Senior sessions. Yes, it's that time of year! We've been traveling all over with our seniors to capture them in their favorite places- at the lake, at their schools, and even in their cars!
We love photographing seniors. If you happen to stop by the studio during a session, you'll notice the atmosphere of the studio is definitely different! The soft lullabys are replaced with whatever CD's the seniors bring along with them, the changing room is filled with brightly colored clothes and accessories rather than little white baby gowns, and when the senior girls come in groups the whole place is filled with shrieks of laughter.
We're so honored to photograph our high school seniors. It's such a pivotal point in a young person's life. We love being a part of that, just as much as we love being a part of a baby's first steps or a family's first pregnancy. But our favorite part of senior portraits is just getting to know and capture who they are in this stage of their lives.
That's why we think of our clients as family. After all, anyone can take your picture. But we know you trust us to capture who you really are.
Here are some sneak peeks of just a few of the sessions we had last week. Thanks Amanda, Mary Ann, Kaitlin, and Kyle!

We hope you all had a great Fourth of July Holiday!
Last week was a busy week for Sherri's Portraits! We had a lot of outdoor sessions in the beautiful weather (before the rain started)as well as several fun indoor sessions (like the one with 10 year old Ashlyn). We also had the joy of photographing a 50th wedding anniversary party! It was held at the Marietta Conference Center so we went on location for the session and had a wonderful time with the family.
And we'd like to wish a warm "Congratulations" to Brian and Melanie Myers, who were just married on 07-07-07! We took some studio portraits of the newlyweds and their family in their wedding attire and they look lovely!
Here are a few sneak peeks at just a handful of the sessions we photographed this week! Thanks to The Hubbards, The Beldons, and The Myers for allowing us to capture moments with your family, and to Ashlyn(10) and Kayla(5) who were really fun during their portrait sessions!

Week of June 25th
This week we had the priviledge of photographing 4 week old Kaitlyn with her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The grandmothers came all the way from Connecticut for this special portrait session.
Sherri's Portraits is no stranger to twins! Several of our families have one or more sets of twins. This week, Nikki Allen brought her twin girls in to be photographed with 8 month old brother Jonathan. When we asked Avery how old she was, she answered "I'm 4!" When we asked her sister Ashly how old she was, she said "I'm 4 too! That's why we're twins!"
Here are some of sneak previews from this week's sessions, including a "Baby Parts" session with 3 month old Alana and an outdoor session with the Williams family. We had a blast with all of our families this week!
