Award Winning Images from the Ga PPA Convention

Sherri's Portraits is honored and very proud to announce that Sherri Noftsinger won quite a few awards at the recent Georgia Professional Photographers Convention.
Sherri entered 6 images into the GPPA Print Competition this year. All six received Merit Print Ribbons.
"Rock Solid Beauty", "Baby Blue", "Sunday Crown" and "The Golden Girls" all won Honor Print Ribbons.
"Sunday Crown" won a Distinguished Award in the Portrait of a Woman category.
But one image, "The Golden Girls", really did very well!
Out of 125 prints, 1 of the 7 Judges chose "The Golden Girls" as their favorite image in the competition. It also won First Place in the Portrait of a Woman category. And it received the Fuji Masterpiece Award.
But the award that means the most to Sherri is the People's Choice Award for "The Golden Girls". This is decided from ballots submitted by GPPA members attending the Convention. After seeing all the images displayed, members choose their favorite image and submit their ballot. So the winner of this award is chosen by fellow professional photographers.
What an honor! You can see all of the Award winning images at the studio!
Congratulations, Sherri!

Dana's Sneak Peek
Dana and her son, Henry, came in this morning for
a very special session.
Henry is only 2 years old but was so cooperative. He did just about everything we asked of him... I was very impressed!
We did some fun poses first, then created a more dramatic look.
Thanks, Dana...can't wait for you to see all the others!

The Sewell Family

We've had quite a few clients ask if we do
on location portraits...of course we do!
If you'd like something other than in or outside our studio, just let us know.
The Sewell family wanted their portraits in their backyard, so we set up a time that would have beautiful lighting and would work with school schedules.
They had many wonderful areas to choose from and we had such a great time!
So if you want a portrait that is more personal and reflects who you really are,
just give us a call...we can help you plan exactly what you have in mind for
that perfect family portrait.
Thanks to the Sewell family for being so wonderful!

Thank you!
A little apology goes out to everyone for not posting images from recent sessions this past month.
As a lot of you know, my Mother was in the hospital for 5 days with massive bleeding. She is now back at her assisted living and Hospice is with her. So as I've said...
"Let the pampering begin!"
I've been with her quite a bit in the past weeks, but I DO PROMISE to post these images in the next few days.
I will also be posting the August Blog Special.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time. That really meant a lot to me.
So "stay tuned" ...I'll get those posted by the end of this week!
THANK YOU!!!

Summer is Here!
The heat is definitely on and Summer is here!
Bet you're spending lots of time in the pool...but the mornings are still nice
and we've had a few families take advantage of that by scheduling their outdoor sessions around 9am. The lighting is gorgeous at that time.
We had twin sisters come in for their First Holy Communion
and a little cutie just to play in the yard.
We always have little ones from 3-12 months,
but it's always fun to bring a Birthday Cake and just see what happens!

So...have you been enjoying all the rain?
I'll take every drop we can get, but it has put a damper on our outdoor sessions. We were able to take advantage of a little sunshine one morning...thank goodness the rain held off for another hour before the downpour!
One little girl and her brother opted to do an indoor session instead. We had a blast with the "Little Lady in Red".

This past week has been quite busy and had a lot of variety. The babies are always adorable and keep us laughing...what a great way to spend your day!
We also had families, siblings and a beautiful dog named Denver.
It was sprinkling rain on and off all day, so we weren't quite sure if we'd be able to go outdoors for this session. But the rain held off and look at the results! Gorgeous lighting and 2 wonderful "best friends".

We Photographed a Celebrity!
We had a special treat today...we photographed a Celebrity!
Cassie Bear came in to have her "close up" and she couldn't have been any sweeter.
Cassie Bear is a trained therapy/service dog and visits assisted living facilities, special needs children and, in her "spare time", is an actress. She will be in the Dean Rusk Middle School's production of "Annie" on Friday and Saturday, April 10th and 11th, in Canton.
Her owner, Tiffany, says Cassie Bear keeps a very hectic schedule. And she just LOVES her Grandma!
Thanks, Tiffany. That really was a special treat!

Seeing all the daffodils in bloom brings back so many good memories. My Mom's yard was filled with daffodils and I'd pick handfuls of them to put in vases all over the house. It just made me feel so cheery and bright! It still brings a smile just thinking about that.
But these little cuties also bring a smile!

Grandma's Hands
Recently one of my clients sent me an email with the following story. She asked if I would come to her Grandmother's home to photograph the hands of all the girls from 4 generations. Time was of the essence since her Grandmother has cancer and very few days left. It was an honor to be there with this family and I want to share the story and images with you. I will never, ever forget this...
Grandma's Hands
"Have you ever looked at your hands?" she asked. "I mean really looked at your hands?"
Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled shriveled and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life.
They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the floor.
They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child, my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They held my husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war.
They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special.
They wrote my letters to him and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse.
They have held my children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors, and shook in fists of anger when I didin't understand.
They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day when not much of anything else of me works real well these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer.
These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of life.
But more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home. And with my hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ.
I will never look at my hands the same again. But I remember God reached out and took my Grandma's hand and led her home.
When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my children and husband I think of Grandma. I know she has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God.
